Shared ownership is another way to buy your own home. You buy a percentage, and pay rent on the rest. The housing association owns part of it — but you’re living there, you decorate it, and you decide when to sell.

Buying a percentage means a smaller deposit and smaller mortgage. It’s a sooner first step on the ladder for lots of people. Usually, you can also carry on buying shares, to own it 100%.

Food lovers have plenty of choice in the town with more than 60 restaurants and cafés offering a variety to suit all palates including Italian, Greek and Japanese.

There’s plenty to do throughout the year. The town has its own amateur orchestra, plenty of venues to enjoy live music, while children can enjoy and explore the Roald Dahl Children’s Gallery. There’s a tennis and squash club, swimming pool, fitness centre and snooker hall and football and rugby clubs. Looking further afield the Chilterns offer miles of beautiful, rolling countryside to explore.

The town is well served for educating children of all ages and abilities, with several schools for primary and secondary aged pupils, plus the Aylesbury campus of the Buckinghamshire College Group.

A regular bus service runs from Berryfields into the centre of Aylesbury, from where you can catch regular trains from the railway station into London
