Local area information

Visit the Woolston Millennium Garden which was created for the residents by a local group who wanted to give something back to their community and inject some pride into the area. It was completed in 2002. Its focal point is a 10-metre tall metal and recycled glass feather intended to signify Woolston's history of flight and sail. The garden is divided into three areas, signifying the earth, the sky and the sea. Many of the crew of the Titanic came from Woolston and there are bricks in the pathway through the garden that are inscribed with their names.

A short journey across the Itchen Bridge will take you to the fast-paced city of Southampton.  Explore the Cultural Quarter, where you can visit museums, stop for a coffee at one of the many cafés or dine out at some of the new and fine restaurants that have sprung up.

The cosmopolitan area of Oxford Street offers up a mixture of fine dining and busy bars – there is plenty to keep you entertained here.

For a spot of retail therapy you won’t be disappointed with West Quay, one of the south’s biggest shopping areas packed with designer and high street stores as well as a cinema and food court.

Southampton offers a variety of sports, Southampton Football Club, aka The Saints, has their home ground at St Mary’s Stadium and the Ageas Bowl is the home of Hampshire County Cricket Club and also stages concerts for up to 35,000 people.  If you prefer sports on water, the Solent is never too far away.

The nearby park at Weston Shore is a popular location for people across the city, who regularly visit to watch the ever changing activities on the water including the large cruise liners coming and going, exercise themselves, their children and their dogs, relax, strolling through the park, fishing or bird watching, have a picnic and take in the sea air. Several time a year events take place in the park including regattas, a cycling event (a route through the park is part of the National Cycle Network) and community fun days.

Education

As well as an onsite nursery, there are a good selection of schools in the area, Woolston Infant School and St Patricks Catholic Primary School both of which are Ofsted rated Good.  For older pupils the Oasis Academy Sholing been quoted as having “a warm, nurturing culture’ by Ofsted, and the Oasis Academy, Mayfield also has an Ofsted rating of Good.  Nearby Southampton also offers education opportunities, including its own University.
