Shared Ownership in Epsom

If you ever needed validation that Epsom is a great place to live – we’ve found it. The town was ranked in the top 10 of the happiest places to live in the UK by a BBC survey. So if you thought Epsom was just about its eponymous cure-all-salts and the Derby - its legendary horse race, run every year in June – you’re wrong. There’s much more to Epsom than the gee-gees and holistic bath remedies, and on paper, this southern leafy market town, might just be suburban perfection.

Why are people moving to Epsom?

There’s a stronghold of families, many of whom have abandoned city living for the calm environs of Surrey, seeking more house for their buck, and a break from the bustle of London. And if it’s a quieter life you’re searching for in an area on-the-up, Epsom could just be the answer. You can escape into its miles of green belt, hiking or biking or driving along country lanes, stopping to pull in for a pint at a higgledy-piggledy pub. You can grab a coffee and mooch around its farmers’ and craft markets, where buskers tinker beyond the stalls and local artisans rustle up knockout dishes and cakes you can’t say no to. You can navigate its shops without having to tackle the tube or torturous bus journeys. And when you want a good meal and an excellent wine or three, Epsom has a growing crop of independent restaurants and gastropubs where locals huddle around heat lamps and roaring fires with balloon glasses of G&T and craft beers. If you’ve got kids, there are scores of great schools, many of which have been branded ‘Good’ or ‘Outstanding’ by OFSTED. Transport-wise, Epsom nudges the M25 with access to Heathrow and Gatwick, whilst trains towards Victoria and Waterloo take around 40 minutes. And it’s for these reasons, Epsom is an area with remarkable staying power – few people ever leave. And that, my friends, means the property scene here is buoyant and strong, with buyers moving up and down the ladder relatively easily.

Buying with Help to Buy

With all its character and that superb location, you might think that buying a new home with bags of charm in Epsom is off limits.  Not so. Shared Ownership makes jumping onto the property ladder immeasurably easy and far more affordable than the conventional route, and there are plenty of options in and around Epsom on Keaze. Sycamore Gardens is a new development of high-spec homes arranged along tree-lied avenues and wrapped up in green open spaces. Elsewhere, The Picturehouse is an upmarket collection of one- and two-bedroom apartments (with high-end interiors and large windows). It’s super close to Redhill station, too, where you can whizz into London Bridge in just half an hour.
