As government takes its holidays, we at PB HQ sit back and reflect on what changes have taken place and what this may mean for the complex world of housing when we re group in the autumn.
We have seen a new housing minister take position in Kit Malthouse (@kitmalthouse) who is MP for NW Hampshire, just 6 months after Dominic Raab (@DominicRaab) took position and gave positive indications of his commitment to the sector.
We have to ask how we are ever really going to make any fundamental changes to this housing crisis we find this country in when housing is only ever seemingly paid lip service to from the government?
We need to see housing as an apolitical party commitment, with longevity of policy that will really start to make a difference to people’s lives. Really start to make dreams come true for those thousands of people that want to and should be able to own their own home, in addition to the thousands of homes the country needs to build for the rented sector. All of this resulting in a varied, but stable and accessible housing market for all.
We see the pent-up demand and desire for those wanting to make their homeownership dreams a reality first hand at Property Booking and also the Mayor of London’s Homes for Londoners site, which was built, developed and powered by the team at Property Booking.
We have seen exceptional growth in numbers since launch last year from zero to 18,000 registered users looking for a Shared Ownership home. Coupled with this we have also witnessed Shared Ownership being the choice for people to buy at later stages in their lives, or when their lives have taken a change of direction, therefore giving these people and families not only security of tenure, but also the piece of mind to be able to settle, be near to family and friends, local schools and employment and what they know.
#SharedOwnership isn’t just about getting that first foot on to the property ladder, its about jumping on and off that ladder as and when life throws stuff at us, it’s the security of home that we all crave and need, it is a huge part of the solution to the affordability crisis that we see our aspiring homeowners’ face.
So, please get in touch with @kitmalthouse whilst you enjoy your summer break, cast some sunshine on the benefits of #sharedownership and we hope to see and speak to you soon about just how pivotal Shared Ownership is in changing people’s lives and being part of the solution to the wider housing crisis.
